Confidentiality
At Concern Cymru the issue of confidentiality is taken extremely seriously and all counsellors abide by BACP and ACC's codes of conduct. Anything disclosed in the counselling room is strictly confidential and will not be disclosed to anyone outside of the service.
If you want your counsellor to speak to your GP or any other professional body, we would only do this at your request, after discussion and permission was secured.
There are rare occasions where confidentiality cannot be promised. This could be if you told your counsellor that:
Someone was going to get seriously hurt.
You were going to harm yourself.
Your counsellor was called to court as a witness.
In these situations, we will always try to discuss this with you first.
What to expect
Counsellors may take brief notes of what is discussed in the counselling room. These notes are open for you to see at any time. The reason for this is two-fold:
As code of practice within BACP and ACC, all counsellors are supervised, by a qualified counselling supervisor. Each counsellor meets with their supervisor once every 4-6 weeks, to ensure best practise of the counsellor to the client.
Counsellors take on a number of cases at a time, and brief notes help them to remember your specific case.
It is important to note, that on client notes or during supervision, your identity or any reference to who you are is not recorded.
